1970s Vulcain Cricket Reference 6001

Why This Watch Matters

The Vulcain Cricket is one of the most famous alarm watches, and here it comes with a stunning blue dial that's hard to ignore.

The Full Story

The Cricket alarm watch was famously released in 1947 after five years of research and development, and was the first mass-produced wristwatch to incorporate the alarm complication. This particular model was only produced between 1969 and 1973. Back then, Vulcain was part of the "Manufactures d'Horlogerie Suisse Réunis SA" (MSR), which also included the brands Revue, Phenix, and Buser. Each of these brands struggled during the quartz crisis, but it did not stop them from making really interesting watches with strong designs. A simple look at the fantastic blue dial confirms that Vulcain was doing something right.

What we Love and What You Should Know

The blue dial is striking, with its external blue shade and central mirrored finish. The lume on the hands shows the same patina as the lume plots. The alarm, activated by the small pusher at 2 o'clock, buzzes loudly and clearly. Note that the accompanying bracelet is unsigned and not original to the watch. Lastly, the case does not show any loss, and the crown is signed with the Vulcain symbol, as it should be.
