1960s Girard-Perregaux Dress Watch In 18k Yellow Gold

Why This Watch Matters

A classic rectangular case design in 18k yellow gold meets a silver dial with vertical, applied hour markers on this Art Deco-inspired Girard-Perregaux dress watch.

The Full Story

Girard-Perregaux's long history and versatility as a watchmaker shines through in a vintage dress watch like this example.

Its geometric rectangular case design features a sharp stepped bezel to create an elegant profile, especially in its 18k yellow gold construction. The dial design mimics the straight-edged look of the case, and the hour markers are painted black and vertically applied for improved legibility. Otherwise, the appearance of the dial is kept to a minimum. The Girard-Perregaux signature is placed right under 12 o'clock and the look is completed by a black-painted svelte handset. Offering a perfect slim fit under a jacket cuff, this dress watch is about simple luxury.

We paired this Girard-Perregaux with our Dark Brown Suede Strap to match the warm look of the 18k yellow gold case, which will seamlessly match anyone's fall weather wardrobe.

What we Love and What You Should Know

The watch is overall in very good condition. The case appears to have remained unpolished with some surface scratches. The edges of the case are still sharp, which is a nice element especially for a geometric rectangular case. The gold hallmark is visible on the side of the case at nine o'clock. The caseback engravings are still legible. There is a very faint circular patina, likely from the sticker that was left on the caseback for many years. The silver dial is is in good condition with light patina and a few small spots throughout. The hour markers and hands are in good condition. The crystal has some light scratches. The dial, case, movement, and crown are all signed by the Girard-Perregaux.
