1966 Rolex Datejust Ref. 1603 With Papers

Why This Watch Matters

The Datejust is one of the most recognizable Rolex watches ever made. Here, we have a stainless steel design with a classic silver dial that is accompanied by its original punched papers and receipt.

The Full Story

First introduced in 1945, the Rolex Datejust has remained a cornerstone of the brand's modern collection. Rolex has constantly updated and changed the Datejust with a range of dial colors and bezel styles over the years, helping its appearance to remain just as fresh and attractive today as it did when it was first unveiled over 70 years ago. This example is ref. 1603, featuring an engine-turned bezel and a pie-pan, silvered dial. Not all Datejusts have these pie-pan style dials, so having one sets this watch apart from similar models. This ref. 1603 also comes with its original papers, including the sales receipt from 1967, the punched guarantee, and the chronometer certificate. The first owner even placed the original caseback sticker on the receipt. The original price for the Datejust was $239.70 and it was sold in Houston at a Sakowitz department store. Sakowitz was a chain of high-end department stores in Texas that went bankrupt in 1982. The Datejust is a classic design that works for every occasion, and finding one with a pie-pan dial and original papers is getting harder every day.
