1950s Longines Dress Watch Reference 6037-1 In Yellow Gold

Why This Watch Matters

The claw lugs are the small twist that set this Longines apart, and make it so much more than your standard dress watch.

The Full Story

The 27M caliber for Longines is widely admired for its reliability, and the configuration featuring the seconds sub-dial, as seen on this reference 6037-1, is ideal for dressy wristwatches. The case on this Longines is made of 18k yellow gold, and the indexes are delicately applied to the finely brushed dial. Here, the lugs are the finishing touch that made us fall for this piece; their exaggerated shape make the 35mm case wear larger on the wrist, which you might not necessarily expect from a watch made almost 70 years ago.

What we Love and What You Should Know

The yellow-gold case of this elegant watch still exhibits clean hallmarks, showing that it was not polished much, if ever. The sophisticated “claw” lugs have kept their unique shape and are free of deep scratches, except for the top right one. The dial comes with some light spotting, but it is homogeneous; the applied indexes and handset are free of oxidation. Note that the crown is unsigned, which sometimes indicates a replacement part, although here its shape seems consistent with other contemporary Longines that we have seen.
